Teaching Morphology       Morphology: Language Play Video

CLAVES approaches the concept of morphology as the study of word parts, which includes prefixes, suffixes, and root words. In CLAVES, students create “morphology banks” for ongoing review of affixes studied, and also play morphology games in which affixes are manipulated to create real and psuedo words that are discussed by the small groups for meaning and use (see language play video). In CLAVES, morphology instruction is focused on meaning, not spelling. Below is an example of a morphology bank and the affixes addressed in each CLAVES unit.
